Dark Horse Koi July 2009

Ginrin Asagi. 2 years old

Ginrin Asagi. From Japan. Breeder unknown but suspected of being Masaki.

Note: This is the same picture as on the Koi Auction. Not to our usual standards but sometimes you need to read between the lines in the description we give for the Koi...

We quote:

"The other belle of the ball - Ginrin Asagi. Super clean head, massively powerful

body combined with brilliant gin gives you a rare opportunity for owning a Koi of

awesome quality. Stunning in every respect.

Female. 53cm. One per box (for shipping purposes)."

So herewith our thoughts on this Koi.

Summary:

This Koi was certainly not overlooked largely in the auction when Blaser set the early pave for the Koi. What we didn't mention about this Koi is that it is only just over two years old.

Note that you cannot see any red other than on the pectoral fins of this Koi. But if you look on the left hand side of the fish you can see the hint of red starting below the lateral line which is exactly what we want to see on a Koi of this age. The red in the pectoral fins - which are perfect in their own right is further confirmation of what we want to see in a young Asagi.

The body shape on this Koi is awesome. For a female Koi already 53cm in size it is superb. And of course the gin in the scales simply overpowered the shot - resulting in Photo Shop not really being given much to work with. Hence our note that the head is super clean - evident from the shot despite the overexposure.

A further clue is the big fat tail section at the end of the Koi. Perfect scalation completes the picture of an extremely powerful Koi.

Sometimes it is as simple as that. Congrats to Blaser - you made an outstanding purchase and well spotted!
